Welcome to St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Primary School

Welcome to the 2026-27 academic year.

We hope you have all had a wonderful summer break - and are looking forward to our new school year 2026-27.

It was wonderful to see our pupils' faces when they returned to school on Monday 7th September 2026.  It was wonderful meeting our many new starters - and getting to know our new families too.

If you wish to enrol your child here at St Mary of the Angels please contact the school office asap.  Please note that we are full in some year groups, however, we do have some spaces across the school.

Please look out for our School Tour dates for this term.

Please support Betsy's Go Fund Me

Dear Parents and Carers of St Mary of the Angels Catholic Primary School.

Our beautiful Betsy in Year 3 and 18 of her friends will be taking on the challenge of the Mini/Junior Great South Race on Saturday 17th October (and adults on Sunday 18th)!

Please see below the message from  family friend Rachel Moore who has been working with Betsy’s mum and dad to organise a fund raiser for Cancer Research UK.

We all know someone who is or has been touched by Cancer – and this is a really good opportunity to come together as a community and support Betsy, her family and friends in their quest against this disease – by raising funds for Cancer Research UK.

Please go to the link for more information on this exciting fund raiser which will also link you to Betsy’s Go Fund Me page – we hope you can donate to this very important charity.

A big thank you and well done to Betsy and her friends and family – wishing you all the best of luck for Saturday and Sunday - we look forward to seeing the photos!

With thanks to all of our families at SMoA School for your support.

Kind regards,

Sarah Alley, Headteacher

Message from Rachel Moore:

Hi, for those that don't know me, my names Rachel. In 2021 I sadly lost my mum to cancer and since then each year I have run a race in mums memory. This year is a little bit different. 4 years ago I met a lovely family with a little girl called Betsy, my daughter Ziggy became friends with her. Sadly in 2023 Betsy was diagnosed with leukaemia. Betsy had a fight on her hand after being a chemo warrior for 2 years she finally got to ring the BELL in November 2025 at Great Ormond Street.

Chantelle and Eddie Betsy's parents had spoken about raising funds for cancer research. This is where I came along and said that I would love to do a race in Betsy's name. We put our heads together and decided on the great south run 2026.

This year on Sunday 18th October myself, my husband Richard, brother in law Carl and Betsy’s Uncle Charlie will be taking on the 10 mile race in Betsy's name.       And to make it even bigger and better we decided to get the kids involved and sign them up to the mini and junior great south run on Saturday 17th October.       Betsy's managed to get all her friends involved so it’s only fair we give them a mention and big thanks for their support. Betsy alongside Harry, Mason, Ziggy, Reggie. Frankie, Buddy, Patsy, Louie, Elcee, Jaycee, Eden, Meadow, Joe, Jessie, Cody and Freddie will all take on the 1.5k and 2.5k raising as much money as they can.

Ofsted Inspection 09 June 2026

Ofsted visited our school on Tuesday 9th June and Wednesday 10th June 2026.

As you will know, the school amalgamated with Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Primary School last September 2025.   Despite a challenging year of amalgamation and change - the school is very proud of the Ofsted Report that clearly shows the hard work and commitment of the staff, governors and school community.

We are proud to present our Ofsted Report and hope you enjoy reading it too.

With very kindest regards, SMoA Team

‘The school is a welcoming and nurturing place. Pupils feel that staff care about them. They say there is always an adult they can talk to if they are worried.’

‘Leaders have provided steady and thoughtful guidance during a period of significant challenge that has placed real pressure on the school community. They have managed the amalgamation of two schools with resilience and determination.’

Catholic School Inspection Report 2024 'Outstanding'

The overall quality of Catholic education provided by the school was judged to be outstanding following the Catholic Schools Inspecorate's inspection of the school in June 2024.

'St Mary of the Angels is an exceptionally welcoming and joyful community. Pupils understand and fully embrace the Catholic identity and mission of the school. Pupils show a deep and consistent respect for themselves and others, and consequently behaviour around the school is exceptional, coupled with outstanding attitudes to learning. The inspiring leadership team, including governors, are a beacon of excellence, with a deep understanding of the mission they serve, both in the local community and beyond. Pupils have excellent subject knowledge in religious education and make consistently good progress, building effectively on prior learning so as to reflect spiritually and to think ethically. Forest School Dates - Academic Year 2026-27

Dear Parents/Carers, please see the dates and times for all the planned half days for Forest School coming up this year - from Reception Class up to Year 4.

We have booked half days this year as the feedback on whole days (last year) was that the weather could sometimes prove challenging.   We hope the shorter sessions will be more suitable going forward.

Kind regards,

SMoA Team
