Special Educational Needs and Additional Needs

Below is a summary of the principles underpinning the current SEN Code of Practice which became statutory in September 2014.

Please read our Special Educational Needs Policy and also our SEND Information Report for details of our school's offer (which is closely linked to the LA's Local Offer (see link below)

Local authorities, in carrying out their functions, must have regard to:

  • the views, wishes and feelings of the child or young person, and their parents;
  • the importance of the child or young person, and their parents, participating as fully as possible in decisions; and being provided with the information and support necessary to enable participation in those decisions;
  • the need to support the child or young person, and their parents, in order to facilitate the development of the child or young person and to help them achieve the best possible educational and other outcomes, preparing them effectively for adulthood.

These principles are designed to support:

  • The involvement of children, parents and young people in decision making
  • The identification of children and young people’s needs;
  • Collaboration between education, health and social care services to provide support;
  • High quality provision to meet the needs of children and young people with SEN;
  • Greater choice and control for young people and parents over their support;
  • Successful preparation for adulthood, including independent living and employment.

Additional Information for Parents (post amalgamation)

As you will be aware, St Mary of the Angels and Our Lady of Dolours school's amalgamated in September 2025.    Both school's had a high profile of SEND needs prior to the amalgamation and we wish to ensure we are able to support ongoing provision as outlined in our school policies.  Ms Ubor, was the previous SENCo at Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Primary School.  Ms Ubor has now returned to school from February 2026 and will be supporting Mrs Waine and the Senior Leadership of the school to support both Inclusion and Behaviour.      Ms Ubor and Mrs Waine will be working closely together to support all pupils across the school and parents are encouraged to speak to either Ms Ubor or Mrs Waine in order for us to provide increased access to our SEND team.

Ms Ubor is available to speak to parents and carers at the school gate as additional capacity for the SEND offer of the school.  Ms Ubor is also working across high needs target areas to support the implementation of SEND provision.

Please note, the Headteacher, Mrs Alley is available to speak to any parents/carers in regard to concerns about their child if they wish to in addition to Ms Ubor and Mrs Waine.
